The Ecofont is a free font for domestic use & a nominal charge for business licenses which, thanks to its holes, uses 20% less ink or toner than standard fonts. It is a 'True type' font, compatible with all computer operating systems and is ideal for your huge amount of throwaway printing. Show your employees you care about the environment by printing internal literature using the Ecofont! What does it look like? As the Ecofont is intended for printing, it is difficult to reproduce accurately on screen. It is best to download it and try it for yourself! At smaller font sizes, the holes are virtually invisible, yet less ink is being used by your printer. At larger font sizes the holes are visible - which shows you care! Download the Ecofont The Ecofont is free to download and use. For the official Ecofont site please visit www.ecofont.eu |

Businesses are being urged to cut down on the amount of rubbish they produce and make considerable cost savings at the same time. Reducing office waste, with particular emphasis on paper use is an easy way to make savings whilst helping the environment. The average office worker gets through in one month; a remarkable 1584 sheets of A4 a month, a figure rising by around 20% every year. 'Wasting paper is not only a drain on our environment but is also a burden on most companies' bottom line as they are wasting money with every piece of paper they use needlessly,' comments Envirowise programme director Dr Martin Gibson. Envirowise experience shows that in a best practice small office, employees will use as little as 15 sheets of paper a day compared to 100 sheets a day in a more profligate workplace. The following tips to help achieve best practice: - Think before you print; do you really need to print that document or make so many copies of it?
- Set your printer to print on both sides of the paper by default. It will automatically reduce the amount of paper you use and thus reduce your paper budget.
- Use recycled rather than virgin paper.
- Use 80gsm paper sheets rather than thicker paper and avoid printing on flash paper unless you really have to.
- Encourage staff to re-use and recycle.
- Re-use scrap paper.
- Issue documents electronically rather than in paper form.
- Nominate a waste champion to implement and promote waste minimisation within the company.
- Set up an employee suggestion scheme to generate ideas.
- Use key performance indicators to set performance targets which can be measured.
